| Objectives |
| As a forum for pooling ideas on issues relating to international arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution, the Commission aims to: |
- promote on a worldwide scale the settlement of international business disputes by means of ICC arbitration, mediation, expertise, dispute boards and other forms of ADR;
- study the juridical aspects of arbitration and other modes of settlement of disputes of an international commercial nature;
- examine ICC dispute settlement services in view of current developments, including new technologies.

| Current activities and recent achievements |
| The Task Force on Reducing Time and Costs in Arbitration, co-chaired by Yves Derains and Christopher Newmark, has produced a document called « Techniques for Controlling Time and Costs in Arbitration », approved by the Commission on 13 December 2006. These techniques have been published in the Bulletin of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and in booklet form. (Vol.18/No.1-2007). |

| The ICC International Court of Arbitration Bulletin has published the article "Drafting Awards in ICC Arbitrations" by Humphrey Lloyd, Marco Darmon, Jean-Pierre Ancel, Lord Dervaird, Christoph Liebscher & Herman Verbist (Vol.16/No.2 - Fall 2005). This article is the product of the work of the Ad-hoc Group on Drafting Arbitral Awards. |

| A “Guide to ICC Expertise” was produced under the auspices of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and is based on the work of the Task Force on Guidelines for ICC Expertise Proceedings chaired by Hilmar Raeschke-Kessler (published in the ICC International Court of Arbitration Bulletin, Vol.16/No.1 - Spring 2005). |

| The ICC International Court of Arbitration Bulletin has published in 2004 the Special Supplement "Using Technology to Resolve Business Disputes" (ICC publication Number 667), which includes part of the work of the task force on IT in arbitration ("Using IT in International Arbitration: suggested approaches and procedures"). |

| The ICC Dispute Board Documents adopted by the Commission were published in September 2004 (ICC International Court of Arbitration Bulletin, Vol.15/No.2 – Fall 2004). These documents comprise the ICC Dispute Board Rules (in force since 1 September 2004), the ICC Model Dispute Board Member Agreement and the Standard ICC Dispute Board Clauses. |

| Projects of the ICC Commission on Arbitration for 2008: |
- Study the role of arbitral tribunals when acting as “amiable compositeurs”;
- Develop explanatory notes for the use of Experts in the conduct of expertise proceedings;
- Study and identify specific issues related to “Trusts and Arbitration”; study the possibility of suggesting a draft ICC model arbitration clause to be included in the trust deed;
- Compile in a practical guide covering as many countries as possible the national rules of procedure for recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards pursuant to the New York Convention of 1958.
- Study and identify the essential features and effects of the disclosure of electronic documents in international arbitration.

| Membership |
| Membership is extremely diverse, both geographically and culturally. It is composed of more than 500 international legal specialists named by ICC's national committees in some 90 countries. However, participation of distinguished lawyers and other dispute resolution specialists from countries where there is no national committee is welcome. |
