ICC supports the Oslo Business for Peace Awards
Paris, 22 June 2010

The 2010 Awards ceremony will take place in the Oslo City Hall on 18 October 2010

ICC is pleased to announce its support for the Oslo Business for Peace Awards through a partnership with the Business for Peace Foundation.

The Business for Peace Awards are presented each year to a business person who is outstandingly promoting the relationship between business and peace through socially responsible and ethical business practice and commitments. The award is one of the highest levels of international recognition a business person can receive, highlighting individual achievements and success.

The 2009 awards were given by an independent committee of Nobel Laureates in Peace and Economics including Professor Wangari Muta Maathai, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize, Professor Muhammad Yunus, winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, and Professor A Michael Spence, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economic Science 2001.

2009 award winners came from every region of the world - Uganda, Sudan, China, USA, Saudi Arabia and Sweden – and had a wide range and diversity of business backgrounds as well as from a range of industries, both large and small. To view last year’s winners, please click here.

Chambers of commerce as well as ICC national committees are now eligible to become part of this unique award process, nominating outstanding business individuals from their local community to the global award program. Becoming a nominating authority provides a great new opportunity for chambers to introduce a local “Business for Peace” award in their community, and submit their winners as nominees to the global award program.

All nominees for the global awards will receive and be profiled in a book of honorable business practitioners issued by the Business for Peace Foundation.

For more information on how to become involved in the Business for Peace Awards, including becoming a local nominating organization, please click here.

Founded in 1919, ICC promotes trade and investment across frontiers and helps business corporations meet the challenges and opportunities of globalization. Its conviction that trade is a powerful force for peace and prosperity remains as valid today as it was 90 years ago. ICC and the Business for Peace Foundation share a common role in promoting business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Nominating authorities will be assisted by ICC WCF and the Foundation to implement this program and shall receive a professional promotional package tool kit to help provide the necessary material, information, draft press releases, diplomas, etc. to conduct a local Award Event and select relevant candidates from their local community.

The 2010 Awards ceremony will take place in the Oslo City Hall, location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, on 18 October 2010.
