The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) today called on governments to be even-handed in their software procurement policies and not give undue preference to either open source or proprietary software in legislation.

Paris, 18 November 2005  As the World Summit on the Information Society took place in Tunis this week, an article by ICC Secretary General Guy Sebban urging delegates at the Summit to focus on how to optimise the Internet as a tool for development was published in Les Echos (France) and Le Temps (Switzerland).

Tunis, 16 November 2005  The business community today welcomed UN plans to convene an international, multi-stakeholder forum to discuss issues of importance to the Internet.

Business opposed to proposed models of internet governance
Tunis, 15 November 2005  Companies participating here in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) have opposed plans for an intergovernmental body overseeing administration of the Internet, saying it would only serve to “create uncertainty and hinder innovation”.

Paris, 5 October 2005  Emphasizing the vast multi-billion dollar investment of business in creating and developing the Internet, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) today expressed disquiet at the failure of the preparatory conference that ended in Geneva last Friday to fully involve business in preparations for the final part of WSIS in Tunis on 16-18 November.

Paris, 20 April 2005  International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Secretary General Maria Livanos Cattaui supported the concept of a global alliance on ICTs for development and the information society at the Eighth Meeting of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Task Force in Dublin last week.

Paris 18 March 2005   ICC's Commission on E-business, IT and Telecommunications (EBITT) has expressed its support for a forum of discussion that would enable governments, business and civil society organizations to bolster the information society.

Paris, 12 January 2005  ICC Secretary General Maria Livanos Cattaui today stressed the importance of allowing market forces to drive the progress of global wireless communications and urged business leaders to maximize the use of wireless technology to communicate, innovate and change the way they do business.

European Union approves clauses for international data transfers
Paris, 7 January 2005   On 27 December 2004, the European Commission approved the standard contractual clauses for data transfers proposed by seven international business associations as offering an "adequate level of data protection" under the EU's strict data protection laws. Companies can now use the clauses to provide a legal basis for transfers to data controllers outside of Europe as from 1 April 2005.
