The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) coordinates the United Nations programmes on climate change. UNFCCC convenes annual meetings of all countries that have acceded to the UNFCCC under a "Conference of Parties".

The ICC believes that successfully addressing the threat of climate change will depend on a fully engaged business response. Business participation depends on both the international framework and domestic implementation of climate policies. Many companies throughout the world have already taken significant steps to combat climate change and remain committed to pursuing these actions both at national and international levels.

Ongoing discussions on how to lower barriers for business and industry and promote public private partnerships will be essential. The private sector needs to be fully engaged so it can mobilize to work collaboratively with other players in providing solutions to climate change. More frequent dialogue between business and government should therefore be a regular component in the global conversation so that we can leverage our collective resources and accelerate the pace of change. In addition to the UNFCCC negotiations, the primary venue for international climate change policy, other important forums where supportive discussions and actions can take place include the G8 process, the Asia- Pacific Economic Community, and the US Major Economies Initiative, etc.
