Maritime Transport

Objective

To bring together shippers, carriers, intermediaries and ports and elaborate global business positions on issues such as liberalization, competition and the environment.

The commission maintains that shipping can best serve world trade if allowed to operate on a commercial basis, in a competitive market free from protectionism and other forms of market-distorting government support.

Priorities

  • Convey world business positions on initiatives to modernize maritime and multimodal transport regimes
  • Promote market access in trade in maritime services and explore possibilities for further liberalization, including through the WTO
  • Address competition issues affecting maritime transport
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting shipping worldwide
  • Run the ICC Bill of Lading Review Committee which issues decisions on the conformity of transport documents with the UNCTAD/ICC Rules for Multimodal Transport Documents
